Love Live! Sunshine!! is set in Numazu, and in particular in Uchiura, a quiet fishing community on a calm bay south of the city center. Fans from all over the world come to walk the streets and shorelines they know from the series. Our guesthouses are just up the coast, and we see many happy pilgrims. Here is how to plan your visit.
The two areas to explore
Central Numazu
Start around Numazu Station and the shopping streets nearby. Over the years the city has embraced the series, and fans look out for character manhole covers, posters in local shops and themed collaborations. The harbor area, with its seafood restaurants and the Byuo observation deck, is a short bus ride away.
Uchiura and Mito
The heart of the series is the coast around Uchiura and Mito. This is where you will find the calm bay, the small fishing harbors and Awashima Island, which fans will recognize instantly. Izu-Mito Sea Paradise, a seaside aquarium with dolphins and sea lions, sits right on the water here. Take your time: this is a place to walk slowly, sit by the sea and enjoy the light changing over the bay.
Please be respectful: Uchiura is a working fishing village where people live and work. Keep your voice down, don't block narrow roads or private driveways, ask before photographing people, and take your rubbish with you. Locals have welcomed fans for years, and good manners keep it that way.
Getting around
- Bus: local buses run from Numazu Station toward Uchiura, Mito and Izu-Mito Sea Paradise. They are not very frequent, so check the timetable before you go.
- Car: the easiest way to explore the whole coast at your own pace. Rental cars are available at Mishima and Numazu stations.
- Bicycle: the coast road is scenic but has some narrow, busy sections. Take care.
Suggested day plan
- Morning: start early in Uchiura while the bay is calm, and enjoy the view of Awashima.
- Late morning: visit Izu-Mito Sea Paradise or take the short boat to Awashima Marine Park.
- Lunch: seafood in Uchiura, or head back to Numazu Port for a seafood bowl.
- Afternoon: explore central Numazu and the station area.
- Sunset: walk along Senbonhama beach or watch the sun go down over the bay.
Why stay overnight
Day trips from Tokyo are possible, but the buses are slow and the best light over Uchiura Bay is early in the morning and at sunset. Staying nearby lets you see the coast when it is quiet, before and after the day-trippers.
maicca numazu1 and numazu2 are private, fully renovated traditional houses in Enoura, on the coast road between central Numazu and Uchiura. Perfect for a group of friends: up to 8 guests, a 100-inch theater for watching your favorite episodes, board games and a garden BBQ. Self check-in. Book directly for the best rate.
