Mishima Station is where most Shinkansen trips to Izu pass through. Why not get off and explore a little? A suspension bridge, spring water and a shrine with a long history make a perfect warm-up for your trip.
Mishima Skywalk
A huge pedestrian suspension bridge about 400 meters long. On a clear day you can see Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji. If you do not like heights, enjoy it at your own comfort level.
Kakita River springs
Snowmelt from Mt. Fuji flows underground and wells up here, forming one of Japan's notable spring-fed rivers. The crystal-clear water looks cool just to watch. It is also designated a national natural monument.
Mishima Taisha Shrine
A shrine in the middle of Mishima that has drawn worshippers for a long time, and is also known for its ties to Minamoto no Yoritomo. A quiet walk in the grounds calms the mind.
Mishima eel
Mishima is also known for eel, and lunch is one of the pleasures. Check each restaurant's open days and waiting times in advance.
Host's tip: From Mishima to Numazu is about 5 minutes on the JR Tokaido Line. Sightseeing in Mishima first and then heading to your house in Numazu makes a great itinerary.
Eel restaurants (a guide as of October 2026)
- Mishima Unagi Matsuko: 11:00–15:00 (last order 14:00) / closed Sun / about ¥6,000–8,000
- Unagi Ikeda: about 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–22:00 / closed Thu and the 3rd Wed / about ¥4,000–5,000
Host's tip: Hours, closing days and prices can change. The above is a guide based on Tabelog and other listings, which sometimes disagree. Popular eel shops can close early when they sell out. Please check with the shop before you go.
After your stop in Mishima, stay in the seaside town of Numazu. Each of our houses sleeps up to 8. Booking direct on our website is the best rate.
